Kidney Associates plays a major role in increasing community awareness of CKD
The early discovery and management of chronic kidney disease is essential in preventing or delaying the progression of disease. To help spread the word about kidney disease, help identify patients at risk, and help select patients who will benefit from therapy, members of Kidney Associates regularly various places in the community and screen for hypertension and diabetes.
Kidney Associates is an active supporter of World Kidney Day.
There are two parts to our program:

1. Spread the word about kidney disease. Disseminate information about kidney disease to members of the Houston Community. Several resources are available. In addition to handouts, patients are referred to the following websites:

- The National Institute of Health
- Wikikidney

2. Screen patients for diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease.
- Assess risk factors for CKD (source: NKF K/DOQI)
- Review the five stages of kidney disease (Source: NKF K/DOQI)
- The blood pressure should be measured
- Patients should be screened for diabetes
- Patients should have a serum creatinine to evaluate the GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate)
- Patient should have a urine for a urine albumin creatinine ratio
